The Perfect Match Process
Before we cut a single slab, you see exactly how your finished countertops will look — every vein, every seam, every waterfall match — laid out in 3D and adjusted with you in real time. We call it the Perfect Match Process, and every project gets it, from a statement island to a single remnant vanity.
Watch us build and adjust a real layout in 3D.
Why This Step Exists
Natural stone moves, so we plan every piece
No two slabs are alike, and the veining shifts across a single slab. Where a seam lands, how the veins carry up a full-height backsplash, how they wrap a waterfall leg — that is the difference between a countertop that looks designed and one that looks assembled. Most shops template, cut, and hope it works out. We show you first, so there are no surprises on install day.
The Five Steps
How the Perfect Match Process works
- 01You hand-select your slabs. You pick your actual stone at our slab suppliers, just minutes from our shop — not a sample, the exact slabs going into your home.
- 02We template, then bring your slabs up front.A day or two after templating, you are welcome in our showroom. We pull your slabs to the front so you can see and touch them and find the areas you love.
- 03We build your layout in 3D.Using SlabSmith — whose matching tool is actually called Perfect Match, which is where this process gets its name — we lay your project out in three dimensions. You see how the veins carry across each seam, how a full-height backsplash reads, and how waterfall legs match. For paneled waterfall legs we can stack pieces in the layout, a detail most shops cannot produce.
- 04We move the pieces with you, live. With you, your designer, or your builder in the room, we shift the layout in real time until every piece sits exactly where you want it. There is no charge for this.
- 05You approve before we cut.Nothing is fabricated until the layout is exactly right.
The Proof
What we showed you vs. what you got
This is where the process earns its name. We keep side-by-side comparisons of the 3D layout we showed the client next to the finished, installed countertop — and they line up.
Out of Town or Off Site
Can’t make it to the showroom? You still see everything
You do not have to be in the room to approve your layout:
- →A shareable 3D rendering you can spin, zoom, and explore from your own screen before you ever visit — some clients approve from this alone.
- →A Teams call, where we walk the layout together and adjust it live while you watch.
- →Top-view screenshots for simpler projects where a full 3D view is not needed.
Click the layout above (or the button) to spin, zoom, and explore a real 3D countertop layout we built for a Columbus client.
This matters most for designers, builders, and out-of-town clients who cannot always come to the shop — the process works around your schedule, not the other way around.
Why This Matters
What happens when this step gets skipped
Below are three real installs by other shops. The veining stops dead at every seam, the patterns do not carry across the slab, and the seams themselves are obvious. Quality fabrication is not just about cutting clean — it is about planning the layout before the saw ever runs.
Size Doesn’t Change The Care
Every project gets it, even the small ones
The Perfect Match Process does not change with the size of the job. A statement island and a single remnant vanity get the same SlabSmith layout and the same review. The care is not reserved for big projects — it is just how we work.
FAQ
Do I get to pick my own slab?
Yes. You hand-select your actual slabs at our suppliers, minutes from our shop — the exact stone that goes in your home, not a sample.
Does the 3D layout cost extra?
No. Building your layout in 3D and adjusting it live with you is part of the process, at no additional charge.
Can I approve the layout without coming to the shop?
Yes. We can send a shareable 3D rendering you can explore on your own, walk it with you over a Teams call, or send top-view screenshots for simpler jobs.
Can my designer or builder be part of the layout?
Absolutely. Designers and builders are welcome in the room or on the call while we move the pieces, so the whole team signs off together.
Do smaller projects like vanities get the same treatment?
Yes. Every project gets the full SlabSmith layout — a single remnant vanity is handled the same way as a statement island.
